“Identity is never fixed. It is always becoming.”

pour en savoir plus

In « BeComing », photographer and visual artist Tetiana Popyk, also working under the name Tanita, explores identity as a continuous process shaped by cultural systems and inherited women archetypes. Through photography, mixed media, and conceptual photo collage, the exhibition reflects on how femininity is constructed through visual codes, memory, and social structures.

The series moves from restrained black-and-white portraits that subtly question established norms of gender, androgyny, and authority to vibrant Mexican-inspired collages and reinterpreted ethnographic elements. Rather than illustrating identity, the works examine its architecture — how inherited narratives define women’s roles and how these narratives can be reconsidered.

Rather than asking who we are, « BeComing » considers which archetypes of womanhood we inherit, which we embody, and which we consciously choose to transform.

Visitors can access a dedicated QR code for each artwork, where a short reflection and a curated musical composition accompany the visual piece, creating a quiet dialogue between image and melody.

Tetiana’s work has received international recognition and has been presented in exhibitions and publications, including projects connected to Photo Art Basel (2024). Her photography has also been featured in international publications such as a book « 100 Ukrainian artists in Contemporary art » (Paris).
